Deep Fried Oreos

Who eats this stuff? Why would I do this? Yes, I did think all these things when my boyfriend suggested the insane idea to me first. He studied in Baltimore and talked so much about the fairs and frat parties he had been to while staying there. What he raved about was the food available at these events – corndogs, chicken parm sandwich, BLT etc. One thing he mentioned about was this recipe and insisted that we make them. So I went to the store and picked up the ingredients required to make DEEP FRIED OREOS.

I won’t lie about this but I was really hesitant to make them. The thought of making them made me feel like I was having a heart attack. However, after I tried them, I understood why he insisted on making them. They are SO GOOD.

These babies remind you of your school or college days when you didn’t give a damn about what you ate and how much you ate; YOU JUST ATE.

What I liked about this was the contrast in textures and flavours. When you bite into it, you first get the crisp outer layer of the pancake, soft and fluffy pancake inside and the in the heart of it lies the gooey, almost brownie-like Oreo cookie. It’s so much fun just eating it.


We had a few friends over when we made them so it was pure joy eating them and laughing along the way. Make them when you have some college buddies coming over or when gluttony takes over. It’s intensely satisfying and you will end up with a big smile on your face.

Deep Fried Oreos


Betty Crocker Pancake Mix – ½ pack

Egg – 1

Milk – 1 1/3 cup

Kraft Oreo Cookies – 1 pack

Vegetable Oil – for frying


Follow the instructions behind the Pancake Mix box and prepare the batter using egg and milk. It will be quite thick.

Heat oil for deep frying the in a kadhai. Check if the oil is hot by dropping a tiny amount of the pancake batter in the oil. If it rises up to the surface immediately, it is ready.

It’s a very simple process. Take one cookie and dip it in the batter. Coat it with the batter evenly and drop it carefully in the hot oil. Let it brown on each side. It should take about 2 minutes on each side. Once it is browned, dropped on some kitchen paper to get rid of the excess oil. You can get about 15 to 20 cookies using this amount of batter. Serve piping hot and watch people smile. You will get a lot of “OH MY GOD”.

    I keep watching all these ‘food from usa that you will never find elsewhere’ shows on TLC and Fox Traveller and just *sigh* coz I won’t be able to taste the stuff. But thanks to this recipe, I kinna can 😀 and while mine arent as golden looking as yours, they taste delicious.
