Happy New Menu – The Daily & The Table

With the New Year, many restaurants in the city have introduced new menus. Several of their signature dishes have been revamped and given a fresh new look. The Daily and The Table are two such restaurants that invited me to sample some of their new dishes. The wonderful meal was paired with great company (chefs and owners) and boozy cocktails.

The Daily, Bandra (W)

Dishant Pritmani (co-founder) made it a point to meet each diner at the tasting. He explained the new menu and talked about why it has been introduced. The Daily puts their cocktails under limelight. Theatricality (with the use of a smoke machine) is the key. Signature smoked wood flavour infused drinks, Pre-Prohibition Era drinks cocktails taking you back in time, Tiki drinks that help you relax – this is what it’s all about. The food is friendly and hearty. Veggie Hunter’s Salad is a delightful mix of fruits and fresh greens with creaminess from the goat cheese. Prawns are perfectly cooked and citrusy in the Tangy Prawn Salad. Pork fans will love the Tipsy Pig Slider consisting of minced pork patty, spicy bbq sauce, gherkins, cheddar and crunchy lettuce; perfect accompaniment with drinks. In my opinion, cornflakes on the fish n chips could be crushed a bit more. Scamorza stuffed chicken and the Two Peppercorn Beef Steak round up the meal completely.

The Table

My first time at The Table was fantastic. We had a great mix of people with the owners and Chef Alex Sanchez sharing stories and discussing the restaurant business in this city. Instead of being served individual portions, we were sharing platters of food like at a community table. That defined “The Table” for me. The use of fresh vegetables makes the dish vibrant and alive. My favourites were the crunchy Snow Pea Salad with shaved Parmesan, Warm Purple Potato Salad which reminded me of kand used in undhiyo. Eggplant Parmesan and Swiss Chard Ravioli were the stars. Surprise dish was Æbleskivers. They are fluffy Danish pancakes prepared in a paniyaram. The bauble like pancakes are stuffed with strawberry jam and served with lemon curd. I couldn’t stop at one.
